Michigan Dog Attacks: What Should You Do If You Are Attacked by a Dog?It’s important to know what to do if you have been the victim of a dog attack. The most important thing to do is to get to safety. Make sure that you’re in a safe place. Get out of the road, get out of the parking lot, get on some grass, and get away from other potential risks or threats. Secondly, get help. Call 911. Call the police. Get the medical help that you need as quickly as possible. Third, get information. Get information about the dog. Get information about the dog’s owner, where they live, what their address is, if they have insurance, that’s very important. Get information also about other people who may have witnessed the accident, their phone numbers, their addresses, and ways to get in contact with them after the accident, in some instances a week or two, a month or maybe even a year after the accident. You’ll need to be able to get in touch with some of the people who saw what happened. You’ll also want to get in touch with Animal Control. Report the dog bite. They may have information about previous attacks that this animal was involved in. It may be a more dangerous animal than you may even know about. So, it’s important that the authorities know all the facts about what happened. Also, follow up with your doctor. You need to be very concerned about, and keep an eye on, the risk of rabies, and only your doctor can really help evaluate that and make sure you are in the clear on that.
